CALVIN BROCK TO SERVE AS ESPN2 “FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS” IN-STUDIO GUEST
BLOOMFIELD, NJ (April 27, 2006) – Undefeated top-10 heavyweight contender Calvin Brock will appear in-studio on the April 28 broadcast of ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights”, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Brock will discuss his upcoming June 24 bout against fellow-undefeated heavyweight contender Timur Ibragimov (21-0-1, 13 KO’s).
Brock (28-0, 22 KOs) has stopped four of his last six opponents. In his last bout on Feb 25, 2006, the 31-year-old Charlotte, NC native frighteningly annihilated Zuri Lawrence with a single left hook that immediately knocked Lawrence unconscious and sent him crashing to the canvas (TKO 6). The bout opened the Fernando Vargas-Shane Mosley HBO PPV broadcast. Brock is ranked in the top-10 by all three major sanctioning bodies and by The Ring magazine.
ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” telecast begins at 8:00 pm ET.
The June 24 Brock-Ibragimov 12 round showdown will serve as the main event of the “UNDEFEATED . . . BUT NOT FOR LONG” doubleheader that will be broadcast on HBO’s “Boxing After Dark” series, beginning at 10:00 P.M ET/PT. The opening bout pits the hottest young fighter in the world, undefeated WBA #5 welterweight Joel Julio (27-0, 24 KO’s), against undefeated WBA #2 welterweight Carlos Quintana (22-0, 18 KO’s) in a 12 round WBA Welterweight Eliminator. Caesars Palace’s Open-Air Roman Amphitheater will serve as the site for the highly-anticipated doubleheader.
